Just Because

0144I don’t really have a topic for today’s blog.  I just feel like blogging.

Yesterday’s holiday was a smooth and wonderful day in our household.  We do not host a huge dinner for everyone, although, everyone who would like to come over for dinner is welcome.  Usually the only guest that we do have is my father-in-law.

Hubby is in charge of the turkey.  He is every year.  I like that.  I do not like turkey.  I make myself a ham to eat and this year I even made my own glaze for it.  (Not like it was hard.)

Thankfully both of my children are old enough to help out with all of the responsibilities, and still young enough that they enjoy helping out.  They set the table last night and my daughter had folded up the napkins in a triangle shape to sit on our plates.  My son said the evening prayer.

I am trying to take it easy stress-wise.  Last Wednesday found myself in the ER for seven and a half hours.  I have been having some heart issues.  Skipping beats along with racing and pounding.  I had narrowed it down, myself, to anxiety and panic attacks.  After it started skipping 10 beats a minute, I went in.cand

The ER staff wasn’t worried that my heart was skipping beats.  When they finally put me back in a room, which was 6 hours after I had checking in, they ran tests and took x-rays.  They diagnosed me with Premature Ventricular Contractions (PVC), told me to follow up with my dr and head home.

I knew that I wasn’t dying.  But the purpose of me going in to the ER was to get some kind of meds into me before I could get into my dr.  I was tired of feeling my heart skip a beat.

But I wasn’t that fortunate.  I was however, fortunate to get into my dr two days later.  She believes that it is caused by stress and anxiety.  I pretty much know what my stressor is, so she told me to make that happen less often.  She also prescribed me two meds to help.

The really bad part is that I have had to cut back on my caffeine.  The flavor of coffee that I prefer is not made in a decaf.  It’s just awful.  *sigh*

*Taking a sip of my freshly brewed decaf and not feeling as much pleasure and comfort as my regular coffee.*

With that, I am signing off.  For now, I’ve got to go add more French Vanilla creamer to my coffee….

Make Up in August

I do not wear make-up that often.  Just for certain occasions.

I would like to try some new colors and new ways to wear those colors.  Instead of the same ole, same ole.

Welcome to Make Up in August.  I am going to wear make-up every day of the month, or try to, that is my goal.  Hopefully I can use enough combos between colors and techniques to do something different each day.

Would anyone like to join me?  I would love some credibility!

I have started a Pinterest board to give me fresh and tons of ideas!  Check it out here!

Another New Adventure!

brendaYesterday morning I woke up to a couple of things that startled me, and one forced me to make a tough decision.

The first incident was the post letting me know that the trip to Nashville, with 1 Million Moms Against Gun Control, was canceled.  This was a huge bummer for me!  It was the first big family vacation that I was planning and actually saving money for.

The second, was finding out that 1MMAGC had to split from the group that was made AmMo-PAC.  Now I know nothing about organizations and such.  But whatever the issues are, these two can not be partnered.  With that decision being made, we were told that we had to choose.  We could not hold our positions with 1MMAGC if we chose to volunteer with AmMo-PAC.

This was where things got a little more upsetting for me.  I have loved being with 1MMAGC and have grown attached to some of the people in the organization that I work with.  However, I have a yearning to understand, be in the know, and be involved in the political aspect of everything, which is what AmMo-PAC will be covering.

So after learning all of this, I weighed my pros and cons.  AmMo-PAC came out the best.  It seems to me that a lot of pieces of a puzzle are falling into place and I have to go with that.  I am starting school to get a Bachelors in Political Science and Public Administration, so that seems to align with each other.

I spent a good portion of my morning praying about this also.  When I had finally made my decision, I felt really good about it.

That alone tells me that I made the right decision.

While I am sad to leave my positions behind at 1MMAGC, I am excited to see where this new trail will lead.  And I didn’t have to leave 1MMAGC all of the way.  I am still able to volunteer as a boots on the ground volunteer.

The family trip I can deal with also.  We can plan our own, or wait and see what is in store with AmMo-PAC.

Want to know about AmMo-PAC?  The website it still under construction, but you can see a little bit.  We also have a Facebook page that you can follow to get more information.

My New Adventure in Life

avatar_doll_1As if I really need more adventures, right?  I mean, really.  I currently volunteer for 1 Million Moms Against Gun Control.  I am a wife.  I am a mother.  I am a small business owner.  I am a backyard farmer.

But there will soon be another title to add to that.  I will be a full time student!

I was being urged to go back to school to broaden my job search options.  As I was talking with the counselor, we came up with teaching, because that is something that I enjoy doing.  But as much as that sounds fun, I really can’t see myself teaching.

I was told to gather information that I would need to start school for a teaching degree.  As I was doing that, I ran across another program that really excited me!  I’m talking, got me giggly and antsy kind of excited.  Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Public Administration.

Not only will this help with my work at 1 Million Moms Against Gun Control and the new organization we have started branching from there AmMo PAC, by giving me a broader understanding of organizations and politics.  This will also give me a better understanding of politics, which I have been wanting for some time, many more job options when I have the degree and who knows where I can take that!

Anyone who feels like covering me in prayer, it would be greatly appreciated.  This is a four year degree, so it will be a strain on the family a tad.  But it will be something that benefits us greatly in the long run.

I have applied and am starting financial aid.  I should start June 2!

Serving Others

0000014Jesus spoke many times on people serving others.  “And whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Matthew 10:44-45).  It is something that Christians should all be doing, as a witness to Jesus.

What are some ways to serve?  If you are ready to venture our into your community and serve, there are many places that you can start.  Churches are almost always looking for people to volunteer to teach or help out with different things.  Food banks in your area will probably also be looking for volunteers.

Sometimes you can volunteer at a school or a library.  Even as a tutor.

Don’t think that you only have to participate in organized volunteer work.  Any time that you are picking up litter or cleaning up a public area is volunteer and makes your community look so much nicer!

Many communities have clubs and organizations that you can also volunteer at.

15Ways that I have volunteered in the past.  When I was a teenager, I volunteered to be a teen leader in my community’s 4-H club.  After my children were born, I volunteered to be an AWANA Sparks Leader, a Sunday school teacher, watching the young children during church for their parents and playing flute and handbells for our church.

I believe that it’s important for my children to learn about serving others.  They see the work that I do and how much time I put into my jobs.  I consider something that I volunteer to do the same as a job.  I’m not getting paid an hourly wage with money here on earth for it, but I am getting a wage that I’ll receive in Heaven.  That will be even greater than any reward or amount of money I could ever get here!

0000019My Volunteering Now.  Right now, I currently am volunteering for an organization called 1 Million Moms Against Gun Control.  I am the State Coordinator for Washington.  We aim to educate and inform others in 2nd Amendment issues, firearm safety and training and other self defense areas.

1558502_10200287038978189_797538811_nBeing able to carry my pistol to defend myself and my children is definitely something that I believe is worth volunteering my time for.  I strongly believe in our Constitution and Amendments.  I do not believe that those should ever be messed with.

Serving others is a necessary part of a Christian life.  If you aren’t serving somewhere or somehow, please pray about where God wants you to be helping.

Luke 6:38 says “Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”

Yearning for Spring

20110212_1I sit here this afternoon, in the warmth of a pre-Spring day, sipping on a cup of coffee and just admiring the blue sky that I can actually see today.

Here in the Pacific Northwest, it rains a lot during the Winter, Fall, Spring and Summer.  Being able to look up and see that bright blue expanse of sky above me always makes me feel as if I’m looking at the sky for the very first time.

I have only one week to wait until the official day of Spring.  It’s one of my favorite seasons.  To watch the buds opening on the trees, hearing the song of the birds that frequent our house and even seeing the dartiness of the humming birds who have made it back this year just fills my heart with joy!

God really thought of it all didn’t He?  Birth, growth, fruit, death, and then re-birth.  It’s really amazing.

And a gift that I treasure each and every year.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I must go refill my coffee cup.
